Bloody hell delboy, when you first came down here 1500 crowds were the norm at alot of clubs of the same stature. It really is irrelevant to compare then to now. Woking are not as near to London as we are, although boast a healthy Chelsea suporter base and don't have Prem clubs on their doorstep (or a 30-45 min bus ride away) like we have.
We don't get as many as we deserve but as posted above not for the want of trying. This subject raises its head evey year and tbh, the club can do no more than they are currently trying to do.

I don't think it is.I believe 800 of those would now follow AFC whether we like it or not.Get them as kids like you and i were got and they can stay for life. As for Woking.I'm sure its just a short train ride to London!

I know Ive said it before but I think a big lump of expanding the clubs base hinges on the Collingwoood development and integrating facilities on the rec into the club. Once we are able to operate as a regular local sporting facility I really believe the base will develop. If theres spare capital it should be invested in the plans on the table. If you've got a windfall you can only spend it once - bung it in the revenue account and once its gone its gone, spend it on an income producing asset and it pump primes for the future. Meanwhile I think Dos has worked his usual miracle recruiting the squad he has on the current budget. Boats is after a full time pro contract and fair play to him, we can't compete with that but its the kind of aspirational culture PD is building. If Boats dont make it this time then he comes back and that's fine by me. And if Dos can apply his finance accumen to the weekly Tescos shop I would happily sign up Mrs Bornatotter for a crash course.

The point about hooking the fans as youngsters is well made, I started coming down aged 10 because one of my school friends was already a fan and sung the praises of Terry Howard.
We are trying to promote the club to local children in a variety of ways. Boys' and girls' football and coaching are obvious ways, and of course we have our community fun days, but there are also hospital visits, personal appearances by Jenny at school fetes, cub and scout events etc and various other events that are getting quite large attendances but perhaps fall under radar for many football fans. We also deliver Planet Positive lectures and it was really pleasing to see a whole wall at one school devoted to Sutton United.
We will continue doing all of these and more, but what we really need is more volunteers - even if it's just a couple of hours per year - as the workload frequently falls on the shoulders of the same people.

Delboy, I don't know where you have been in recent years, but Woking were getting 300 fans a game in the 1980s at very latest. Yes, their crowds went up over a long period of sustained success i.e. 17 years at the top level of Non League football, where they saw that league changed from pretty much part time to full time, clubs suddenly had a lot of money pumped into them (which pretty much wasn't the case prior to their promotion).
If you honestly think this club is standing still then I may suggest you are trolling bigtime (and it seems to be working) or you are really doing a disservice to the people behind the scenes. The fact that the club is attracting players we couldn't have dreamed of 4 or 5 years ago with great league experience (and in some cases top flight and international experience), the diversifying of the uses of our facilities, the entire FDP and the work that is going into the community are prime examples of how we are moving forward.
Oh and Chalmers is right - season opens and this convo has moved on/been hijacked/not worthy of a sticky, so I vote for it to be unstuck as well

"If you honestly think this club is standing still"
Frankly its quite amazing how my comments get turned around.
All i suggested is that our budget was increased a small amount.
That gets turned into that i advocate blowing our windfall in one season. That i think the club is standing still. That i'm doing a disservice to the people behind the scenes.
The above 3 points are absolute rubbish but don't let that stop you attacking me for my views!

i would prefer to keep the budget as it is and consolidate our place in the Blue square South.we need to avoid 2nd season syndrome this season, before planning anything else

The problem is delboy you don't seem to listen to what Dos says. At the meeting earlier this year, he stated that he was looking to use a mix of youth & experience and by doing that would not need to spend so much. It was also stated that the money made from the Notts Co match would NOT go on playing budget unless absolutely necessary. Therefore Dos, who incidentally, is a successful business man as well as a bloody good manager, is not likely to start spending more unless the need becomes so.
Over the years you've made this point on countless occasions but still don't seem to understand. The reason why the club does not have to bow to the likes of Dipre or end up like K's is because of its prudent financial management. Thankfully, Dos appears to be in agreement, no doubt wearing his business head and considering the future of SUFC, not just the present, as he would with his own company.
If we don't need to spend don't spend. Bloody simple if you ask me. Get it now?

Probably best of we try and get this thread back on topic now! Perhaps start a new thread to continue this discussion

I just want Dos to have the resources he deserves.

Ok back on topic, this still a player thread and with a month to go until the league campaign starts there could be some considerable movements in that time?

Once upon a time the beauty of this board (or previous version) was that the topics could go off in various directions and made it a more intersting read. If it goes OT it goes OT no big deal.
