Don't think thre is much 'new news' here but given our current league position we should be realistic and recognise that the club may well face a very stark choice in the not too distant future. I.e. If we finish the season promoted then would we insist on retaining the 3D pitch with all its commercial and community benefits and risk relegation or find an alternative (dig it up or groundshare) and play in the FL.
i am totally confident that the club will pursue all options and, of course, this could all be a very academic argument but if it really came to it I would be in the school of wanting us to play at the highest level possible and get the grass/ hybrid back....

Two questions. How many teams, from all age groups and genders, are now using the 3G pitch. And how many would we have to disband if we had to return to an organic pitch?

I don't know exactly Oohaah, but there are our 1st team, youth team 2 academy teams, Ladies team and 2 Community teams playing regular matches on the 3G (plus SCR and AFCWL) - there may be more. However, we have approx. 45 SUFC teams in all and most if not all train on the pitch at some time during the year. We estimate that at least 500 different people use the pitch each week, some weeks it can be a lot more.

Thanks Davef. A more reassuring answer than I was expecting as I'd totally forgotten that the youth teams play on the grass in the recreation ground.

BBC local news yesterday evening carried an item on Bromley and their 3G pitch. Manager and chairman interviewed, both extolling the virtues of the surface and their displeasure at the current FL stance. They confirmed that if promoted they would rip it up. No mention of us or Maidstone.

Presumably there is no change to the Football League's attitude to artificial pitches for next season.

Various comments about digging up the pitch - this is a crying shame and would be a great loss to those many community teams that enjoy such a marvellous facility ; remember all you folks wanting EFL footie - FL1 is no great shakes - the club will loose its non - league identity that most of us older supporters find most endearing - it will attract a minority thuggish element that we don't want ; could go on but I wont!!

Why getting promoted create a thuggish element?

Because getting promoted will resurrect a 19th century network of secret fraternities known for strangling their victims, presumably.

To be honest, our recent success has brought more of a thuggish element anyway.
