Does nobody have a sense of humour on here? Let me put this as diplomatically as I can; when it comes to comedy, you're not breaking any barriers.

What a charming fellow you are. Besides which, if everyone weighing 14 stone or more is required to go on a diet in order to lean against the barrier safely, it does rather suggest that the current measures designed to prevent fans from so doing are very well founded. Well if you're causing the barriers to creak you must be over 20 stone. The barrier creaks when I lean on it. I'm not sure how much I weigh these days but it's certainly less than half of the arbitrary figure you just pulled out of your arse.

Did everyone see the game last night when Croatia scored and several camera men were crushed by a flimsy fence? This is exactly the reason why the restrictions have been put in place as anyone leaning on the fence would be at the bottom of the pile if it collapsed. In any major incident including hillsborough the first question that is always asked was where was Health and safety?. I would be interested to know how many people applied for the recent post of H&S manager at the club. Imagine the implications both personally and legally if there was a serious injury at the ground. The buck stops with you. You would have to explain to the injured persons family why H&S failed. Yes Health and safety is ridiculed and then blamed for any failure. Failure in Health and safety could result in a manslaughter charge and at the very least many sleepless nights.
I have every admiration for DaveF. Would anyone like to submit their CV for H&S manager at Sutton United?

The game I saw didn't involve a fence anything like the construction of the one at our perimeter, and furthermore no one was "crushed", let alone "several". I have little to argue with in regards to the rest of your post, in fact your sentiments are shared by most if not all on here I would imagine. I don't imagine anyone here has anything but admiration for DaveF in the difficult position he is in with respect to this, nor do I suspect do any seriously have an issue with the club in general, rather in the interpretation of a perceived problem, and the proposed solution to it. The solution is to have a perimeter fence of sufficient style and strength to accommodate both the interests of fans wishing to view the game from there, and satisfy any health and safety requirements. Few see the solution, other than in the short term, to mean spectators having to watch matches from a more densely populated, and less attractive viewing point - I would think. Or perhaps a more satisfactory outcome is to achieve promotion to the Football League as this then ceases to be an addressable issue. Sensationalising the debate with untruths about a game several layers removed from a typical non-league game adds little to the debate in my opinion.

Hi halftimet, not a criticism, but just a slight correction to your message, Dave F advertised the role of Ground Safety Officer recently, not for his role of Health and Safety Officer for the Football Club ( which he is still holding )......the role of GSO was the one that I held last season ( based up in the Blue Portakabin on a "matchday" ), but have had to relinquish, partly because of my own work commitments, and partly because, as you've pointed out, it did cause a lot of sleepless nights ( and not just for me ! ) , especially when it came to the back end of the season when it came to all the organisation that was needed to be put in place in order for the Play Off match v Boreham Wood ( and the Aldershot game too ) to actually take place !! Spectator Safety is essential, no-one would want to see a serious accident taking place at GGL would they ?

Hi, some hopefully positive developments on the situation today.
- We got feedback from the manufacturers, including possible enhancements - We are in discussions with our consultant around requirements, solutions and outcomes - We are getting some tests done and will try out solutions

My only argument is that Hillsborough was caused by too many people being too tightly packed behind barriers and a fence that would not give. Had that fence of broken there would have been a lot of lives saved. No one is blaming the club, H&S is a tough job, but hopefully commonsense will prevail in the end providing a safe and sensible solution.

We're at the point where people are justifying kids not being allowed to stand near a perfectly safe, legal fence, in a ground that's never more than half full. Not a single person has said the club is at fault in any way, especially not the fella who has to sort it out

Does that mean that if they say they're strong enough we can go back to leaning on them? It's more the distance that pees me off because it's such a big wasted area.

Not exactly. It does mean that if in consultation with the fencing manufacturer, installers and test engineers we can propose a viable solution and undertake load tests to demonstrate that the fence then satisfies the load requirements then we will hopefully get permission to stand around the fence again. We are hoping to get this done during this week.

Gutted for the kids but completely understand the compliance and risk elements for the club.
