When Bohemians asked me how many U's fans would make the trip I said "more than to Airdrie, 150 and maybe a few more". When I got to Gatwick yesterday morning there were about thirty people on the flight carrying colours, and I was told the previous flight was the same. About 1.30pm I got a text saying the Bohs' bar was a sea of amber, when I got there you couldn't move in the bar because of Sutton fans.
Then I went outside for the game and couldn't believe my eyes, one end of the giant stand was a sea of yellow. 250 ? 300 ? I don't know, it was impossible to count but 250 would be a low estimate I think. What a fantastic turn-out. I tried to speak to as many people as I could and everyone was saying what a fabulous time they were having.
In the evening Ireland were playing Denmark and the city's taxis were heavily pre-booked, it was very hard to hail a cab outside Dalymount so I hope everyone was able to get a cab, especially anyone who needed to get to the airport.
Another day to remember.

And I for one will be gutted when the draw for the quarter finals takes place and November 17th comes around. Aswad’s penalty was over the line and we would still be there trying to win by sudden death penalty kicks..... Wait...it looks like you're saying the shootout would've lasted 'til 17 November!

It's been a fantastic little journey this competition, and I'm gutted it's now over despite the huge damage my bank account has suffered as a result of it! Particularly harsh the way we lost too after playing so well. As someone said to me the other day we were living the dream watching our non-league side abroad, and I'm sure we'll cherish the memories for a long time

Me and Mrs JK left Dalymount with a cheer and a hearty appreciation of the amber heroes. Today I’m gutted.
Maybe it’s the come down from a diet of Smethwicks and Guinness.

Gutted we lost and the amazing journey in the crazy competition is over.
I wonder if the club would enter again if the opportunity arose? Hopefully they would say yes.

If the Scottish Challenge Cup offer a place next season to the most amazing travellers of the 18/19 competition we’d be a shoe in. A bye to the semi-final wouldn’t be overly inappropriate!

Wow - yet again this club serves us up something rather special. An experience anyone who went won't forget for many reasons.
A lot of people were giving predictions about how the match would go, but on the evidence of Saturdays game, a team like ours could hold our own in the League of Ireland. I did fear in the first 10 minutes that we were going to get a thumping but we grew into the game, and both teams could have won it in normal time but both were a bit lacking in terms of finishing, but for a 0-0 it was pretty entertaining and a lot of end to end stuff.
Great fun while it lasted and I don't think I've enjoyed a defeat more in a long while.
Final note - I'm sure Aswads penalty went in!

It's over. Another part of the rich history of this wonderful club ended in a penalty shoot out and it wouldn't be Sutton if there wasn't some controversy surrounding it either. Did it or din't it? 1966 and all that. A topsy-turvy penalty competition eventually went the way of the home club thus extending their season a little further and leaving U's to get back to the NL and next week, the more important FA Cup.
Considering how much rain had fallen, the pitch played pretty well and allowed for a highly entertaining cup tie which both teams could have claimed they could have one. Yes, Billy, another very good 0-0. Both sides did better down the very slight slope. Bohemian was the better starters and probably should have netted but a combination of good defending, fine goalkeeping and errant finishing kept U's in the game and they began to make chances of their own. The best of these saw Tom B's effort tipped over by the appropriately named, Supple.
Second half and U's were the dominant force although BOHS forced Ross W into a couple of fine saves when they broke with fluency and purpose.
U's best efforts came from set pieces and Cloughie probably should have scored when he dived in to head another ball from the flank. Aaron D and Aswad also went close but penalties it was to be. Ross made two fine saves but having stopped the rot by scoring their fifth pen, Bohemian got the momentum back and Supple saved, scored and then saved again forcing the comp into sudden-death.
So, it ends. U's out without conceding and thus losing in 180 minutes plus of IBC football. Takes me back to the Anglo-Italian in 1980 when U's lost to Trieste in the final on pens having not conceded in 5 matches of that season's competition.
The only spoiler was the ref. His consistency with his cards akin to Carl Brook at Orient. Josh T's booking a complete joke and then failing to pick up on the worst tackle of the match on Tom B was too much for Dos (sent off for telling the truth no doubt) and Craig E booked for similar. You really do have to wonder what is going on. Week in week out in the NL and now some Scottish idiot joining the fray. Bet he is a full-paid member of the SNP, i.e anti-English. How else do you explain that first half?
Have to say it was a great trip. Ryan Air did its bit getting us there on time and only a 50 minute delay coming back. The Bohemian pub was a proper drinkers' establishment and while real ale was nowhere to be seen, The Smithwick's Red was fine (can't stand Guinness) and the locals we spoke to very friendly.
An excellent turn out from the Sutton fans. Loud and proud. Well done to all.
The adventure over but one consequence of defeat is, weather permitting, that our trip to Gateshead doesn't get shunted to a midweek date in Nov/Dec. Every cloud, eh?
Onto a very tough looking trip to Grosvenor Vale. If we can take 200 plus to Dublin surely we can double that for the FA Cup.

League title wins, great game cup runs, away wins at Lincoln, Tranmere and Orient, trips to Ireland and Scotland. It’s bloody dull following this football club at the moment, when can we do something interesting?

It's easy to forget that, just four years ago, we experienced an underwhelming season - finishing 15th in the NL South, exiting the FA Cup in the 3rd qualifying round at home to Burgess Hill Town, going out of the Trophy in the 1st round at Hemel, then losing at Merstham in the SSC.
Since then we've achieved something remarkable each season: the South title in 15/16, the fifth round of the FA Cup in 16/17, our highest ever finish in 17/18, and playing in Scotland and Ireland in 18/19. It's no exaggeration to call this a golden era in the club's history.

No pressure I know there are a number on here who don't remember 07/08 or some of our other season where nothing happened aside from us being just a mid table club, but it makes events like Saturday even more satisfying. One thing I especially loved on Saturday was that I've not felt such a sense of unity among the fans for many years. It really was one of those "all in it together" moments, and regardless of the result it's something every single one of us can feel rightly proud of.

It’s remarkable reading that streak of events from 15/16 to the present day with this season about to start motoring (f.a.cup and another top 7 finish?). My crazy little theory is Paul D & Ian B - there like Brian Clough & Peter Taylor. Not the same when there not together..

I'm pleased to hear that you (and others) enjoyed the club's Irn-Bru adventure. It does seem a shame that you only got to see one goal in the two matches though.
Airdrie,Dublin,Hartlepool,Gateshead,Fylde,Halifax etc etc - it wears me out looking at the fixture list let alone going !
However i'm looking forward to walking round the corner to see one or two of the upcoming run of home games.
