I absolutely wasn't going to have a whinge at my misfortune. But now one week on I just can't help myself. Was I the only one to fly out of Stansted on what should have been the 10.05? I think I was because I might just have spotted another amber & chocolate wearer in the four and a half hour wait I had to endure. (Ryanair, of course). Ever hopeful that the estimated delay might get shorter rather than longer, I decided to wait it out. Anyway, blah de blah, having finally found a plane my optimism increased that I might get to see some football after all, until we then sat on the runway for another half an hour. Arriving in Dublin, I lost another 15 minutes due to the queue for taxis - only 6 taxis allowed on the rank at any one time; the other waiting hundred or so stacked up in a holding bay 5 minutes away. I urged my driver to not spare the horses and I arrived at the ground just in time for the final 20 minutes and the penalty shoot out (of course). I just had time to sink 4 quick pints of Guinness before hailing a taxi back to the airport for the homeward flight - which amazingly was on time - and shared with a few other wearers of the amber and chocolate. Thank you for reading; whinge over but that is the LAST time i fly Ryanair (and I mean it this time!). And was it worth all the angst for just that last 20 and the shoot out? Of course, it was.

Pretty sure you can get compensation if your flight is delayed by more than three hours.

No, you weren’t the only one. My son should’ve been on it. His first flight on his own so he felt he had to give up & come straight home. Luckily I was still in the terminal when he found out, so it was just a wasted 3hr round-trip drive, a hefty £10 car park fee & a major disappointment. Another one who’s never using (or trying to use) Ryanair again.
