Dates for your diary now kids - instead of playing Havant or Eastleigh on the first midweek of the season, we'll be making our debut in the Carabao FOOTBALL LEAGUE cup. Fixture release day - Thursday 24 June 2021 Start Date – Saturday 7 August 2021 (with a live television game likely on Friday 6 August) Carabao Cup Round One – w/c 9 August 2021 Carabao Cup Final – Sunday 27 February 2022 Papa John’s Trophy Round One – w/c 30 August 2021 Papa John’s Trophy Final – Sunday 3 April 2022 Regular Season Final Day League One – Weekend of 30 April 2022 League Two & Championship – Weekend of 7/8 May 2022 League One Play-Off Final – Saturday 21 May 2022 League Two Play-Off Final – Saturday 28 May 2022 Championship Play-Off Final – Sunday 29 May 2022 Thank you for the info. Do we know if we will be able to play and GGL and if not, for how long? And where (I was told Tooting a while ago) would we start the season in that case?

If you listen to everything that been said, pretty much every ground within a 50 mile radius south of the river has been mentioned - Milwall, AFC, Kingsmeadow, Palace, Woking, Tooting, Aldershot. I think in all honesty if we have to (and there's no certainty we HAVE to groundshare - it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could either get the work needed to be done in time, or to request the EFL that we start the campaign with away games until the ground is ready if it's going to be a week or two before it is past 7th Aug, Tooting is the least likely because the capacity of the ground is well short of the minimum 4,000 capacity allowed in L2 and there is a rule in place that no team is allowed to groundshare at Imperial fields. It's all up in the air at the moment, but I'm sure once the club knows the situation for certain, so will we.

Bruce was asked this straight after yesterday's match and said he strongly believes that GGL could be ready for the start of the EFL season.

Amazing, incredible, wonderful. The team has been immense this season, was gutted to miss out on the game, but a prior golfing weekend meant i was walking round the course watching the score updates coming in, and yelling out when each goal went in. Poor form on the course, but who cares. Can't wait for next season already, and getting to visit new grounds, especially in North West. Thanks to everyone at the club, and of course Dos and Bairdy for laying such a wonderful platform for our success. Roll of next season.....we are EFL

It's all up in the air at the moment, but I'm sure once the club knows the situation for certain, so will we. As has been stated elsewhere we will be playing at GGL. I believe that we can ask to be away for the first game. In any case if you're going into the EFL you can't groundshare with a non league club and the minimum capacity is 5000. That immediately discounts Kingsmeadow (i still can't work out how Wimbledon could play there given that it's under the 5000 minimum capacity) I also believe that you can't groundshare at a PL club so the options were Wimbledon (but they have the London Broncos playing there so that was out of the question), Millwall, Crawley (same division so very unlikely), Charlton and Leyton Orient.

First came to GGL in 1983. Hitchin at home. Won 2-1. Joycey scored within 30 secs of us coming through the turnstiles. I did pull him up on this on Sunday after the game and to be fair, he's accepted some responsibility for the almost 40 years of nonsense that has followed. Fortunately I let him off a compo claim given the celebratory mood I was in. Huge congratulations to Matt, Jason & all the staff. Bobby, Cat and of course the squad. All of them have been immense this season and have stuck together brilliantly. They've genuinely won the division by simply being the best side. Scored more than anyone else, won more than anyone else, defended better than all but one, kept more clean sheets, kept their discipline. Every aspect, we've been absolutely bang on. For me it's the National League's 'Leicester' moment. Regardless, if you'd told me after winning the Isthmian in 10/11 that we'd be football league club in a decade, I'd have either laughed in your face or perhaps asked you to buy me a pint and explain just how the chuff that was going to come about. What an achievement. As one of Sutton Utd's most geographically distant fans, can I note through misty eyes two things: Jack Goossens is smiling down on Gander Green Lane right now. And: can we make sure the ground upgrades that now take place ensure the Shoebox Terrace retains and even enhances its shrine status - Gandermonium Lads - get onto it. You know what Hobart, not long after the place had gone garrity for the second goal, a little thought did cross my mind. What would those guys who formed this club in the Robin Hood all those years ago have made of it all had we been able to have them there on Sunday? Made me smile. As for the Shoebox, I think it's on borrowed time now sadly. We'll see what we can do though. On an unrelated note, anyone got a big garden that needs a nice brick feature to put some plants on? Interested parties must also allow access to dickheads to come sit on said feature with a big bag of cans and have a little sob every so often though....

Just a point I'd like to make about positioning of the cameras v Hartlepool.
Pleased to see that the halfway line camera on the covered terrace site is now behind the barrier. Previously the camera had been closer to the pitch obscuring the view of spectators on that side. I hope this will stay the same now - PLEASE!

The Shoebox Terrace has been nothing short of the Scion Kop of non-league football (well - er - you know what I mean). If it is to be demolished how about it be found a new home near the ground - would that I were there to gladly offer my builders' labourer services - good luck lads.

Just to update, as mentioned on our website, that this week will see the demolition of The Shoebox and the turnstile enclosures. The actual turnstiles will be salvaged and we plan to "reserve" The Shoebox name for future use.
Please note that our home is no longer a football stadium, for the next few weeks it will be a construction site, which means usual construction sites rules. There is front gate security and only authorised persons can enter the stadium itself, after signing in, and must be wearing appropriate PPE. The clubhouse rooms and the main office will still be open.
