os international. No I wasn't by the tunnel when the teams went off the pitch, why would I want to stand there, they don't play football down there, do they.? I didn't see the game at SR, I was on holiday. You obviously thought you were the better side on the day, that's fair enough, that's your opinion, I wont argue the point as I wasn't there. Again you say there was a foul on Eastmond for our goal, again just your opinion. Again, I never said you were better at your place on your pitch, I said I think it gives you an edge. I don't care if you lost 10 home games, it still gives you the edge, or, it should be used to your advantage. You have more points than anyone else in the league, so you deserve your promotion, I haven't argued about that. I said I have seen better footballing teams than you in our division, that is the first game I have seen you play. If I had seen more of you then maybe my opinion would change. From what I saw, we were crap today, and deserved nothing, you imo were not that much better. You obviously play better than that, and so do we, I can only base my opinion on what I saw. Your a strong physical side, it got the job done, I just wonder what your stats are regarding discipline and fouls committed, I reckon your up there, apologies if wrong. I just wish you would actually read what I post, not what you think I put. Your a Sutton fan, I am a Fleet fan, we are all a little biased towards our clubs, that's human nature, I am not envious, or bitter person towards your club, I just say things as I see them. I honestly hope you do well in your new division. My final post on here. Enjoyed the banter.

What a fantastic day for the club yesterday was. The result aside, the best league gate at GGL since, I think, a certain Larry Pritchard scored the winner for Wycombe back in April 1971.
Very late posting again after I drunk more last night than I'd had the rest of the year so far - not that that is saying much mind.
I thought 'Fleet would be a much better side than they proved yesterday but perhaps that is because we are a far better side than some realise and certainly don't get the credit for. After the first 20 mins when 'Fleet enjoyed their best spell, U's grew into the match scored when Nick B ent Tom B away and he squeezed in a low cross that Fitch hit into the roof of the net. 1-0 at ht would have been fine but the second from Bedse's penalty really raise the confidence levels.
I was level with the incident and I never went up for a spot kick and was surprised when the ref pointed to the spot. Bedse's celebration was a little ill judged - perhaps a long term hangover from his dismissal at Stonebridge Road. Still, bearing in mind that their winner that night came after a blatant foul on Craig E, I'd say it was honours even in the bad refereeing decisions dept. Not sure it warranted the bottle throwing response though.
Second half Kedwell headed straight into Ross W hands and that was probably it from then as U's saw out the 45 mins comfortably to edge that bit closer to what looked an unlikely title back in January. It was top class management of the game by the squad.
Fitch missed a great chance for a third and then inexplicably, the ref played on after Tom B was brought down and then gave the offside against Fitch. Apparently the ref coughed to that error after. I am afraid if he is the best ref at this level as the occasion demanded it about sums up the real problems the game has with finding satisfactory officials at Step 2.
After to the bar, too much to drink on an empty stomach and a failed attempt to open that poxy safe. More drink at John P's 65th (thanks JP) and in his 52nd year watching U's. He couldn't have timed his personal celebration any better.
So to next week against an inform Chelmo side who will no doubt be looking to end U's unbeaten run. Nos hrinking violets and lets have an end of season do to remember after.

Decided to delay my thoughts on this one until after I had felt fully recovered from the 'ordeal' (though given the tangents this thread seem to have gone off on perhaps I have left it too long!). I use the term ordeal because I don't think I have enjoyed a game less this season not because of the nature of the game itself but the importance of it. Having said that the nature of the game itself did play a part as it was by no means a fantastic advert for non league football with most of the midfield play that was attempted being broken down by some strong physical play from both sides. Games like that are mostly won by the side that wants it more and that was clearly us, exemplified by Fitchett's consistent running and tracking back, often putting pressure on opponents in his own half even after another player had lost the ball.
Ebbsfleet certainly offered something to the game but it wasn't a game that would give anyone an indication of how good they really are, same can be said for Sutton but certainly I disagree that 2-0 was flattering, don't think that 3/4-0 would have been either. Once we had contained the early attacks, largely thanks to a Ross Worner who continues his very high standards, it looked like we were the only team capable of scoring.
Onwards now to our final home game, the small matter of a meeting with the FA preceding that, and a chance to go 25 games unbeaten amongst other things, credit to everyone involved with the team for making that even a possibility as I doubt many people would believe that we'd be in that position at full time on November 7th.

Frakey said "Very late posting again after I drunk more last night than I'd had the rest of the year so far - not that that is saying much mind.".............I can confirm that he had more than 3 pints last night lol
Unfortunately, due to Stewarding duties in the tunnel / dressing room area, I didn't get to see much of yesterday's game, but was definitely caught up in the fantastic atmosphere that was created by both sets of supporters ( glad that segregation wasn't felt necessary, the same as when we played at The Gallagher Stadium the other week ).
As to whether our 3g pitch has helped, it probably has, but as the old saying goes, if you can't beat them, join 'em, when I lived near Maidstone just under 3 years ago, I used to go to where Ebbsfleet train these days ( Cobdown Social Club , where the Kent FA's Headquarters is located ) every week, and have heard that a 3g pitch is going to be installed there shortly, so they'll be finding out for themselves how to play on it effectively day in and day out !

Haha of course we are not up there as one of the best teams sweetie. The table and record breaking unbeaten run clearly lie... I hope your players enjoy Las Vagas. Oh...! You didn't even read my post correctly, I said I didn't think you were one of the best sides that I have seen this season, and your not, regardless of where you have finished You are clearly under the influence, or a little lacking in certain areas. Also its called Las Vegas. Oh......... You may be of the sweetie camp club, but I certainly am not. Haha. The irony of it all. Thanks for the spelling lesson. It is 'you're' not 'your' by the way... Enjoy the playoffs, chump!

2010/11 - Ryman Premier Champions, unbeaten at home in the league - not on a 3G pitch.
Notwithstanding this season's stats, even if we were unbeaten at home this season or had a better home record than away (which we don't!), people need to bore off.

Thanks Mark and SuttontilIdie for bringing the strand back to something more fitting than the Ebbsfleet fan taunting. Still can't believe that I had to miss this game at the last minute. Hoped I could catch up with some of the atmosphere here and found myself disappointed reading that the game wasn't greatly enjoyable. Do I remember right that more than one person here said that? Please put me right on that! Definitely coming down this week for the Chelmsford game to see us gain that 1 necessary point (or will it be 3?) and take part in the Sutton Roar.

I wouldn't say that the game was not enjoyable although in terms of the football, there have been some games easier on the eye I guess.
There was probably too much importance on the result for both sides to make it a feast of football but the commitment shown by us and the way we negated much of Ebbsfleet's threat from the 30th minute onwards, made it more than enjoyable for me. There was good movement and pace at times but it was the result we all wanted and we got it easier than expected.
Here's to Saturday and hopefully the three points needed to make sure we get where want to be no matter what is thrown at us by the FA whenever that is announced.

I dunno, the Maidstone game felt just as important at the time and that was a brilliant game of football. That's definitely the one I'll remember for years to come anyway.

I thought we were excellent for 80 mins. The first 15 mins Gravesend were first to the ball and were generally quicker than us having 3 shots at goal although Ashmore did make a fine save during that spell. Thereafter we controlled the game. Not sure why there was 2 mins of injury time in the first half but thanks ref as that helped us as he gave us a pen. As he gave us the pen how on earth was a card not given to their defender? In the middle of the area with just the keeper to beat! Gravesend were very good at doing the less obvious fouls and got away with many shoves (but we do that too, Beckwith is excellent at it). we really bossed the second half are rarely looked in trouble. Ross did have more to do in this game than recent games but the chances were straight at him. One area of very slight concern for me is the number of headers we are heading over instead of in. We have missed some absolute sitters in recent weeks. Saying that I probably would have given the MOM to Fitch as he worked his socks off and was excellent. His goal was excellent, in recent games he's had the same chances but missed the target however in the biggest game of the season he didn't. Great stuff. Our defence were absolutely awesome and really didn't give them much of a sniff. A massive congratulations to all the tem on and off the field, top stuff. There were certainly some disgruntled Gravesend fans after the game with one wanting to have a fight with me after accusing me of trying to run down his wife and kids!! He then called me a goose in a derogatory way but I can't be offended as I have no idea what he meant! I, for one hope that Maidstone go up in the play offs as their fans have a lot more class and are generally a lot nicer. For a club with no support I thought there were quite a few of us there on Saturday I've seen 5 or 6 better teams than Gravesend down the Lane this season oh and at last Parkes didn't score against us Can't wait for Saturday. Up the U's

You are obviously a school child, as you stoop so low with calling people names, absolutely pathetic, I have heard better from my grandson, and he is 5, so your probably not much older than him.
